Electroplating Workflow

  • Calculate required amperage for parts and create entry in log book
  • Verify pH of electrolyte is in the 5.5 to 6.0 range (less than 4.7 or over 6.3 is bad)
  • Remove heavy grease and rust with wire brush
  • Dip for part in 20% HCL acid solution until zinc plating has been removed
  • Blast parts with glass beads until the part is completely clean
  • Where rubber gloves to avoid getting oils on the parts
  • Degrease parts for 5 minutes in 190°F solution
  • Rinse parts and verify water break
  • Dip parts in 5% HCL acid solution for 3 seconds to etch
  • Rinse parts thoroughly
  • Plate parts in agitated 110°F solution for 25 minutes with a current of 0.14 amps per sq. in.
  • Rinse parts
  • Dip in 5% HCL acid for 2 seconds
  • Rinse thoroughly
  • Dip parts in blue chromate for 30 seconds
  • Spray Rinse parts
  • Dip parts in 80°F yellow chromate for 14 seconds
  • Completely dry parts with compressed air
